Olivia Halunen, a 6th grade student at Woodbury Middle School recently completed a History Day exhibit on the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all African American Women's Army Corps unit. In 1945, "Six Triple Eight" was sent overseas to break the barrier of floor to ceiling undelivered mail to over 17 million soldiers and was the only battalion of its kind to serve in the European Theater of Operations. These women are still fighting for recognition today.

As such, Olivia was recognized by the director of "The Six Triple Eight" documentary and has been invited to the Beloit International Film Festival to participate in a forum to show how young historians are uncovering and telling hidden narratives through impressive, first hand research. Not only that, she'll soon be a postcard girl and the co-author of a national postage stamp in honor of the 6888th!
